MAHOGANY

five months old mahogany

Summer time is over. It's already mid of June. I'm badly. waiting for a rain. A rain that can watered those thirsty plants and trees in the northern part of Luzon. Yes typhoon Cosme was a strong typhoon that devastated some province of the northern of Luzon. Luckily in our town was fortunately not. It was just a rain shower that not even enough to water my plants in my hometown. I planted mahogany trees more than 600 last June 2006, it's now two years old. During the first one and half years, I visited them every two months to water them and every 6 months I fertilized with complete fertilizer. My father was a farmer before but usually plant rice, tobacco and other vegetable so I didn't saw him planting trees especially mahogany. Now he is already in heaven with my mother so I have no one to guide me. I thank The Department of Forestry Quezon City, patiently gave me the informations of how to plant and how to care of mahogany tree in just through telephone call. I used to call them and became makulit but it was fine for them although they don't know me personally.
I did not visit anymore this summer because I'm expecting that since already nearly two years old it can wait for a rain this month of May. The last time I visited was one & half years old and two times higher than me already and looks healthy. But this is my problem now , already mid of June but still no rain. My relatives there told me through text that it is very hot like summer. Hoping my mahogany tree will not be affected. Its' not possible to go these time because my kids can't come with me , because classes started already. I used to bring my kids with me every time I'll do something to develop for the piece of agricultural land given by my parents. My kids were born here in Metro Manila and they don't show me an interest about this small land inspite of encouraging them because they will surely need this when they have already a family. I myself work for the planting and cultivating with two hired men. I hired only two because I was expecting them to help but instead they were just under the shade texting and texting. I wanted to scold them but I think it won't absorbed, it's useless . I was the same like them before. When I was newly married I planned already to plant trees beside the rice fields , there is a space for mahogany because just beside along the sapa . According to agricultural books that I had read, mahogany could be benefited after 10-15 years. I just only planned and not seriously did it . It is only 2006 and my kids were 15 & 16 years old when I pursue this long term plan. Now they are 17 & 18 years old and my mahogany now is only 2 years old. So many years wasted. If only I carried out the plan right away , maybe this time I'm benefiting now.
I'm just only hoping that it will always rain. At least on and off slightly heavy rain. Mahogany loves water for the first five years.

wow! salamat po sa brief guide in choosing the best place to plant trees.

we really need to protect the trees.

anneberly's Blog;;;Sure

thanks for dropping by. i'll link you up nanay;0)

nay, dapat pala sayo ako nagtatanong. i like plants and i didn't realize that the department of forestry do actually answer questions when you call them. buti naman ganun. may foresight din kasi ako na when i can really afford na, i will have my own orchard kagaya ng mga tito at tita ko at ganun din ng sa magulang ko.

Nanaybelen said...

ifound me;;;oo mahilig ako talaga.

Hello nanaybelen!

Ok yang mahogany niyo a.

Good move yan nanaybelen! Good luck, sana dumami pa ang maitanim niyo.
