Saluyot :Corchorus

This is one of my favorite vegetable. We've been eating so much saluyot since i was a child. We just simply picked the saluyot tops (young leaves only ) from the fields free and cooked with bagoong (anchovy) vinegar and garlic. Put a little water just enough to cook the saluyot leaves. It is just like cooking the way like paksiw. We love also the recipe like denengdeng or inabraw na saluyot . This is very nutritious food and good source of betacarotene, iron, calcium and Vitamin C. The plant has also an antioxidant activity with a significant a-tocopherol equivalent Vitamin E according to wikipedia.
But my folks really loves saluyot almost everyday especially on rainy season. They believed that saluyot makes them bones strong and healthy. I can personally confirmed their beliefs because only farming was the source of income in our place before when was young and even those aged individuals can also works in the farm under the sun everyday. That is the reason why i always cooked also this vegetables for me and my kids not only for the health benefits but for them to remember my folks.
This plants starts to grow during Month of May when usually the start of rainy season. They grow on soft soil or wet.
